A Day with the Girls

If I were to start my day, it would not be any other way than waking up to take care of my angels. At 6:00 this morning, both the girls started crying. This is not a typical thing. They usually wake up and talk with one another, but they both have been battling really bad colds. They have progressed to coughing and it is sad to see. Juliana has recently been struggling with trying to sleep. Every time she would relax she would cough and wake her up and we would have to start all over again trying to put her down. I feel so bad.

So now that the girls are up and wanting to play, Mike and I transferred them to their walkers. Oh, they love these. They can cruise all over the room and they look like they are playing bumper cars. They would run into each other and laugh. During this time, Olivia has discovered the piano and that it makes sounds. It never fails that as soon as we put her in her walker, she runs to the piano and tries to play. We really hope this is in interest in the instrument. Juliana has not discovered this wonder yet. Although, she has discovered the plant we have located on the floor next to the window. She learned real quick that is not to play with.

After playing in the walkers, it was time to eat breakfast. They usually start their mornings off with some oatmeal and a fruit, followed by a half a bottle. This usually satisfies them enough to go and play for awhile. We put them in their pen and they have a great time. Olivia will try to tackle Juliana and they will lay on top of each other and laugh. Juliana will turn around and hit Olivia on top of the head and they both will sit there and laugh. The funny thing we saw today was Olivia trying to crawl over to the couch and Juliana was holding onto the fence. She felt her sister crawl behind her and then she sat right on Olivia's back (still holding onto the fence). It was like she was riding a horse. It was so funny and Olivia didn't know what was going on. She just kept trying to reach the couch and eventually Juliana stood up.

Once the girls were tired of playing it was time for their nap. We fed them the rest of their bottles and put them in separate rooms to sleep. We can't put them down in the same room because all they want to do is talk to each other. That of course is a problem because they don't get any sleep and then they would be cranky for the rest of the day. Not today. Juliana and her lovey slept in our room while Olivia and her lovey slept in her crib.

When the girls wake up from their naps they are ready to play again. This is usually when Daddy and Mama spend personal time with them. We get on the floor or hold them in our laps and talk with them. This is such a magical moment. We love holding them and helping them learn about the world around them. Olivia has recently started pointing at things and using her language to describe it. Not sure if she really knew what she was doing, but she pointed to the cat and said "at" "at", my mouth dropped open. Really, she tries to say "cat" before Mama? Ah, like I said before, I don't think she really knew what she was saying, who knows.

After playtime, we put the girls back in their high chairs and then feed them a small meal. Today, the girls had beans and rice, sweet potato and applesauce. At every lunch they are allowed, watered down juice from a sippy cup. We are trying to get them to use the cups more often, but it is taking some time. We then repeat our morning routine and allow them to play and then a second nap.

Around 3:30PM the girls wake and they are usually ready for a snack right away. We usually put them in their high chairs and give them some puffs, cheerios, or half cheddar goldfish crackers. It is amazing on how quickly they have learned how to chew. We are still very cautious but we are progressing very well.

Bedtime comes around 6:00PM. Right before bed time today we gave the girls a bath. They had a chance to sit in a special baby vicks bath to help them breathe better. It seemed to help Olivia more than Juliana. Oh, my poor babies. Even though they are sick, they sure do love their bath time. They have a rubber duck, a plastic cup, and a washcloth puppet they play with. Most of all they like to splash and get their Mama wet.

After our baths, Juli and Livi were dressed in warm PJs, brushed teeth, and fed a bottle. After a little while, they are calm and we can put them to sleep in their beds. Oh, what sweet angels. No matter how they can make us frustrated at times, they still have this way about them that puts a smile on our faces and even makes us cry. They are the best gifts ever and we are so happy to be able to share a little of their lives with those that read this blog.

11 Months Old!

We have made it another month full of happiness and fun with our little girls. This past Thursday, on the girls' 11 month mark, we went to the Ripley's Aquarium with family. This was the girls' first time going to an aquarium. What a great time we had. The girls loved looking at all the fish, crawling around through tunnels, and enjoying a lunch of beans and rice. Soon, Juliana and Olivia will be a year old! WOW! I can't believe it has been that long. The time has flown and now we are wishing it would slow down a bit. Enjoy the pictures of our outing.
